With the cost of supplies still high, it’s difficult to figure out what to update to start preparing for a home sale. Especially under a tight budget. Here are a few things that I can think of, that won’t break the bank. 1) Change outlet and switch covers so they match throughout the home. 2) Paint. Especially if you have bright or bold colors. Dark, bold colors can be a turn off and makes rooms appear smaller than they are. Use neutral colors like taupe, grey, white, eggshell, light tans, etc. 3) Change out hardware on cupboard doors. This can make your home feel updated even with outdated cupboards. Be sure to scrub (or even paint) the cupboards before putting on the new handles. 4) Update light fixtures one at a time. You can buy a new light fixture for $150-200 and it can completely transform a room. 5) Clean up the curb appeal! Rake up the leaves, pick up sticks, cut down dead trees, etc. If your house is a mess outside, buyers will think it’s a mess inside and won’t even look when it goes on the market. I hope this helps some of you. Make sure before you buy anything you google ” ‘store name’ coupons” and see if you can find a good coupon to make it even more affordable. I’ve found 40% off paint before which is huge because paint isn’t cheap anymore! If your school uses a program such as scrip gift cards, you can save even more money by using those. Of course if you don’t feel comfortable making these decisions alone, contact us at Whitmire & Associates and we would be glad to help you prepare your home to go on the market.
